Tafseer Ibn Kathir of AL ANBIYAA' [9]

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَاء وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ

Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.
