YUNUS — Ayat 57

Tafsir Ibnu Katsir

يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُمْ مَّوْعِظَةٌ مَّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌ لِّمَا فِى الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ - قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُواْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

57. O mankind! There has come to you good advice from your Lord, and a cure for that which is in your breasts, -- a guidance and a mercy for the believers. 58. Say: ”In the bounty of Allah, and in His mercy; therein let them rejoice.'' That is better than what (the wealth) they amass.59. Say: ”Have you ever considered all the means of sustenance which Allah has bestowed upon you from on high and which you thereupon divide into 'things forbidden' and 'things lawful'?'' Say: ”Has Allah given you leave [to do this] - or do you, perchance, attribute your own guesswork to Allah?''60. But what do they think - they who attribute their own lying inventions to Allah - [what do they think will happen to them] on the Day of Resurrection? Behold, Allah is indeed limitless in His bounty unto men - but most of them are ungrateful. Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam and others said: ”This Ayah was revealed to criticize the idolators for what they used to make lawful and unlawful. Like the Bahirah, Sa'ibah and Wasilah.'' As Allah said:
