{ إذ جاؤوكم من فوقكم ومن أسفل منكم } من أعلى الوادي وأسفله من المشرق والمغرب { وإذ زاغت الأبصار } مالت عن كل شيء إلى عدوّها من كل جانب { وبلغت القلوب الحناجر } جمع حنجرة وهي منتهى الحلقوم من شدة الخوف { وتظنون بالله الظنونا } المختلفة بالنصر والبأس.
{When they came upon you from above you and from below you} from the top of the valley and from the bottom of it, from the east and the west. {And when the eyes turned away} turned away from everything toward their enemy from every side. {And the hearts reached the throats} plural of hanjarah, which is the end of the throat, from the intensity of fear. {And you thought about God various thoughts} about victory and might.
