33 : 14

وَلَوْ دُخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَقْطَارِهَا ثُمَّ سُئِلُوا الْفِتْنَةَ لَآتَوْهَا وَمَا تَلَبَّثُوا بِهَا إِلَّا يَسِيرًا

Tafseer

And if they had been entered upon from all its [surrounding] regions and fitnah had been demanded of them, they would have done it and not hesitated over it except briefly.

Tafseer

{ ولو دُخلت } أي المدينة { عليهم من أقطارها } نواحيها { ثم سُئِلوا } أي سألهم الداخلون { الفتنة } الشرك { لآتوها } بالمد والقصر أي أعطوها وفعلوها { وما تلبَّثوا بها إلا يسيراً } .

{And if they had entered} the city {upon them from its sides} its regions {then they had been asked} that is, if those who entered had asked them {to commit polytheism} they would have done it} with a long or short vowel, that is, they would have given it and done it {and they would not have delayed in it except for a little while}.
