Allah has not made for a man two hearts in his interior. And He has not made your wives whom you declare unlawful your mothers. And he has not made your adopted sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allah says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.
Tafseer
{ ما جعل الله لرجل من قلبين في جوفه } ردا على من قال من الكفار إن له قلبين يعقل بكل منهما أفضل من عقل محمد { وما جعل أزواجكم اللائي } بهمزة وياء وبلا ياء { تَظَّهَّروُنَ } بلا ألف قبل الهاء وبها والتاء الثانية في الأصل مدغمة في الظاء { منهن } يقول الواحد مثلا لزوجته أنت على كظهر أمي { أمهاتكم } أي كالأمهات في تحريمها بذلك المعد في الجاهلية طلاقا، وإنما تجب به الكفارة بشرطه كما ذكر في سورة المجادلة { وما جعل أدعياءَكم } جمع دعي وهو من يدعي لغير أبيه أبنا له { أبناءَكم } حقيقة { ذلكم قولكم بأفواهكم } أي اليهود والمنافقين قالوا لما تزوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم زينب بنت جحش التي كانت امرأة زيد بن حارثة الذي تبناه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قالوا: تزوج محمد امرأة ابنه فأكذبهم الله تعالى في ذلك { والله يقول الحق } في ذلك { وهو يهدي السبيل } سبيل الحق.
{And Allah has not made for any man two hearts within him} in response to those of the disbelievers who said that he had two hearts, each of which had a better mind than Muhammad’s mind. {And He has not made your wives whom you pretend to have} with a hamza and a ya’ and without a ya’ {of them} one says, for example, to his wife, “You are like the back of my mother” {your mothers} that is, like mothers in forbidding her by that which was considered divorce in the pre-Islamic era, and expiation is only required for it with its condition as mentioned in Surat al-Mujadilah. {And He has not made your adopted sons} the plural of dai’, which is someone who claims to be his son because of someone other than his father {your sons} in reality. {That is your statement from your mouths} that is, the Jews and the hypocrites said when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, married Zaynab bint Jahsh, who was the wife of Zayd ibn Haritha, whom the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, adopted. They said: Muhammad married his son’s wife, so Allah, the Most High, belied them in that. {And Allah speaks the truth} in that {and He guides to the way.} The path of truth.
