Pray Time
49 : 5
And if they had been patient until you [could] come out to them, it would have been better for them. But Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Tafseer
{And if they had been patient} that they are in the nominative case as a subject, and it was said that it is the subject of an implied verb, meaning he had remained steadfast {until you went out to them, it would have been better for them. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful} for whoever among them repents. It was revealed about Al-Walid bin Uqbah, whom the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, had sent to Banu Al-Mustaliq as a tax collector, and he feared them because of a dispute that had occurred between him and them in the pre-Islamic period. So he returned and said that they had refused to pay the tax and intended to kill him. So the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, intended to attack them, but they came denying what he had said about them.
