And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."
Tafseer
{And We inspired} by inspiration or a dream {to the mother of Moses}, who is the newborn mentioned, and no one knew of his birth except his sister {that he should suckle him, but when you fear for him, cast him into the river} the sea, i.e. the Nile {and do not fear} his drowning {and do not grieve} for his separation {indeed, We will return him to you and will make him one of the messengers}. So she breastfed him for three months without him crying, and she feared for him, so she placed him in a tarred coffin, made smooth for him inside it, closed it, and cast him into the Nile at night.
