Lodge them [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them in order to oppress them. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for the father another woman.

{ أسكنوهن } أي المطلقات { من حيث سكنتم } أي بعض مساكنكم { من وجدكم } أي سعتكم عطف بيان أو بدل مما قبله بإعادة الجار وتقدير مضاف، أي أمكنة سعتكم لا ما دونها { ولا تضاروهن لتضيقوا عليهن } المساكن فيحتجن إلى الخروج أو النفقة فيفتدين منكم { وإن كن أولات حمل فأنفقوا عليهن حتى يضعن حملهن فإن أرضعن لكم } أولادكم منهن { فآتوهن أجورهن } على الإرضاع { وأتمروا بينكم } وبينهن { بمعروف } بجميل في حق الأولاد بالتوافق على أجر معلوم على الإرضاع { وإن تعاسرتم } تضايقتم في الإرضاع فامتنع الأب من الأجرة والأم من فعله { فسترضع له } للأب { أخرى } ولا تكره الأم على إرضاعه.
{Lodge them} that is, the divorced women {where you live} that is, some of your dwellings {according to your means} that is, your means, an apposition or a substitute for what preceded it by repeating the preposition and estimating an addition, that is, the places of your means, not what is less than that {and do not harm them in order to constrain them} the dwellings so that they need to leave or provide for themselves and so they can ransom themselves from you {and if they are pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. Then if they breastfeed for you} your children from them {then give them their payment} for breastfeeding {and consult together} among yourselves {in kindness} in a beautiful manner with regard to the children by agreeing on a known payment for breastfeeding {and if you are in difficulty} you are in difficulty in breastfeeding, so the father refuses the payment and the mother refuses to do so {then another woman may breastfeed for him} for the father {and the mother should not be forced to breastfeed him.
