Tafseer Ibn Kathir of ALI 'IMRAN [127]

لِيَقْطَعَ طَرَفًا مِّنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ أَوْ يَكْبِتَهُمْ فَيَنقَلِبُواْ خَآئِبِينَ

That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers or suppress them so that they turn back disappointed.
